Peg Perego Primo Viaggio 4-35 NIDO Infant Car Seat
A Safer Car Seat, both With the Base and Without the Base
The Peg Perego Primo Viaggio NIDO is the latest infant seat manufactured by the elegant Italian manufacturer. The NIDO has 3 significant improvements over the previous version of the Peg infant seat – a crash absorbent leg to reduce the energy generated by a car crash, an extended sun canopy that completely covers the baby, and an improved seat belt pathway for when you are using the seat without the base.
- The base of the car seat features a “foot” that extends from the front of the base to the floor of your car. This adjustable foot, once installed so that it is just touching the floor, will reduce the “rebound” that the car seat will experience in the event of a crash. It has been in use in Europe for some time now where it is called the ISO-Fix system. To be clear, when a vehicle suffers a head-on collision, everything inside the vehicle, including the infant car seat, wants to continue moving forward; as the base is tightly fastened to the car (using your LATCh system or your seat belt), the front of the car seat and the base will dip downwards and then “rebound” backwards, seeking a vertical position against the seatback of the car. The “foot” has stiff suspension built into it, so the dip of the base is restricted and the energy is absorbed by the foot. This gives a much smaller “rebound”, and the infant seat comes back to its original resting position more quickly. The NIDO continues to have the “anti-rebound bar” (as per Transport Canada rules), so your baby is doubly safe.
- The extended sun canopy is the response to a large number of consumer requests. Canopies in most car seats cover just the head and chest area. The NIDO extended canopy covers almost all of the baby’s body
- When traveling you may have taken the infant seat and left the car seat base at home. No worries!, you can still safely install your NIDO infant car seat with the lap and shoulder belt combination. Put the carry handle down in front of the baby and thread the lap portion through the brackets in the lowered handle. The shoulder belt portion of the seat belt goes behind the car seat (behind the baby’s head) and slides into a blue bracket. Then pull the shoulder belt out all the way and the tighten it and the lap belt until your NIDO is securely held by the seat belt. Once again, this improved safety system has been used in Europe for several years and is now available in Canada.
